Agrarian Societies

Agrarian societies developed with the emergence of village life. The development of agriculture influenced the human life tremendously and thereby grew a new system of economic life. Agriculture became the sole occupation of the people where from emerged a new type of human association called as agrarian society. The dominant occupation of the people in such a society is agriculture. The domestication of plants and animals constitutes an important economic activity. There also exist along side agriculture varied economic occupations such as artisans, weavers, potters etc. A simple division of labor characterizes such a society. There is practically no scope for division of labor with varying patterns of land ownership. There are absentee landowners. There are supervisory farmers who own land but get their land cultivated by hired laborers. There are small cultivator-owners who own and cultivated their small land holdings..
