Response of Indian society to the early impact of the West

The tremendous impact of west on Indian society can been with the emergence of western institutions like banking, medicine, education which have changed the outlook and way of life. Changes in agricultural technology, industry and scientific innovations have improved the life of the people. Due to impact of westernization the age old restrictions on caste system, inter caste marriage and getting blurred. Nuclear family in place of joint family is another western impact on Indian society.

The eliminative changes refers to those changes which cause the disappearance of culture,traits,behavior patterns, values and beliefs and institutions etc.Additive changes are adoption of new culture traits,institution,behavior patterns and belief systems covering diverse aspects of life. Supportive changes are those changes which strengthen the values, beliefs or behavior patterns present in society before contact with west.
