Programmes for Women and their Impact:The Hindu Marriage Disabilities Removal Act,1946

Among Hindus, no marriage is valid between persons related to each other within the prohibited degrees, unless such marriage is sanctioned by custom. However, this Act validated marriages between persons belonging to the same gotra or parivara (agnatic groups).

This Act now stands repealed after the passing of the Hindu Marriage Act, 1955.
