Macro and Micro Sociology

Within sociology there are two broad divisions: macrosociology and micro- sociology. Macrosociology focuses on large-scale conditions and processes such as industrialization, globalization, and urbanization. Microsociology, by contrast, focuses on small-scale interpersonal processes, including social relationships and individual interactions.

Macrosociology emphasizes processes like urbanization, a transformative process in which people migrate from rural to urban areas and change the way they use land, interact, and make a living.

Micro sociologists might study how urbanization shapes social interactions for example, how do people on a subway train manage to disengage from people sitting next to them?
